Student Leadership

We actively encourage our students to undertake leadership roles and aim to adopt the Lundy model of participation in which students are given the space, voice, influence and audience in order to make The Latimer Arts College the very best place to unlock potential and inspire excellence.

We provide an array of leadership opportunities for our students to equip them with the skills needed to be successful. Over the course of the year a number of opportunities are given to apply for a variety of roles, such as:

Student House Leaders

Student House Leaders play an important role at Latimer representing each House and Key Stage.  They have a fulfilling schedule over the course of the year supporting House Competitions, Assemblies and writing for the School newsletter. Leaders also support as Ambassadors at key events such as Year 6 Move Up evenings.

Student Council

At the Latimer Arts College, we encourage students to express their views about what happens at school and to work together with staff to make positive changes to improve their school experience.

One way students can do this is by becoming a Student Councillor and having the opportunity to represent the views of their fellow students.

Our Student Council consists of one representative from each tutor group who leads meetings within Tutor Time to discuss ideas and opinions around a given agenda once per term.

There is also one House Representative who presents their findings once per term in a formal meeting with the Student Council lead in order to continually improve our School.

This allows our students to make a real change in the school.  In their role, our Student Councillors have an excellent opportunity to develop the 8 key employability skills of speaking, listening, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, creativity, staying positive and aiming high (Skills Builder).

At Latimer Arts College, we encourage students to express their views about what happens at school and to work together with staff to make positive changes to improve their school experience.

Curriculum Leaders

Students are given many opportunities to demonstrate their leadership across different subjects. For example, each of our four houses has two Sports Captains who plan and organise Inter-House competitions, recruit participants to take part in these events and officiate games. Students also have these curriculum leadership opportunities across a number of other subjects, such as MFL, Science and Performing Arts, where they lead lunchtime and after-school clubs, support other pupils across the school and work with our Primary link schools.

Student Voice

Alongside these leadership opportunities, we encourage students to make their voices heard through regular Student Voice meetings and whole-school questionnaires/surveys. Students can also forward their thoughts and ideas using the following email: studentvoice@latimer.org.uk.
