What does Careers education look like at Latimer?

The careers programme at The Latimer Arts College is referred to as 'Future Me' and is delivered through a variety of activities including:

Year 12 students have the opportunity to undertake a period of work experience. This is an invaluable opportunity to develop employability skills and sample the world of work through meaningful encounters.

The school provides in-school guidance and independent advice from external consultants, to ensure our students receive the impartial advice that they need.

Our Independent Careers Advisers are professionally trained Level 6 careers guidance practitioners.

As part of our careers programme, students in Years 10 to 13 are provided with a one to one guidance interview with a qualified careers adviser. Parents/carers or students in any year group can request a careers guidance interview by emailing careers@latimer.org.uk

Monitoring and Evaluation

The Careers Team meet on a regular basis to develop, monitor and evaluate the quality of our provision across the school, to inform our strategic direction. The Careers Leader reports to governors on a yearly basis and a designated governor has responsibility for overseeing the quality of this programme.

Monitoring and evaluation activities are used to measure the impact of our careers programme and inform future planning. These include:
• Learning snapshots and lesson observations
• Questionnaires - students, staff, parents & carers, external agencies
• Student Voice
• Whole school Careers tracking
• Work scrutiny

Each academic year the Careers Lead will write an Action Plan which will be reviewed annually and the provision on offer to students will be audited using the Compass+ tool which is verified via an external moderator.  The programme is evaluated three times a year.  The effectiveness of our careers programme will be assessed using the eight Gatsby Benchmarks and attainment and destination data for students.

Gatsby benchmarks:

1. A stable careers programme

2. Learning from career and labour market information

3. Addressing the needs of each pupil

4. Linking curriculum learning to careers

5. Encounters with employers and employees

6. Experiences of workplaces

7. Encounters with further and higher education

8. Personal guidance

Policies

The school annually assesses the impact of the careers programme using the Compass self-assessment tool and this is verified via an external moderator. Views are sought from all stakeholders, to consider the needs of students and the local, national and global jobs market. Please refer to the Careers policy document for details of student entitlement.

The date of the next policy review is June 2024.
